History was made today in the Great Southwest T&F Classic Combined Events, when Anicka Newell became the first female Decathlon winner. Anicka a Junior at Highland High School in Albuquerque, NM, along with Sydney Haase of Missouri, and Alysa Herchet were all medal winners in the Girls Decathlon.  Anicka competing in her first Combined Event (CE) compiled a score of 5015 points to set the Meet Record, followed by Sydney with 4750 points and Alysa with 2751.

Other events completed today, were the Boys Decathlon, won by Evan Weinstock, of Nevada scoring 6383 points.  Max Scheible of Utah, was second with 6268 poiints and Benton Lindaman (6256) was third.

The Girls Heptathlon was won by Lindsay Vollmer of Missouri who scored 5133 points, followed by La'Tristan Pledger (4873) and Brittany Lewis (4810).

Also contested today was the Boys and Girls Steeplechase.  The amazing Eleanor Fulton of Colorado broke her own meet record with a time of 6:55.38, and Pat Zacharias of Albuquerque Academy, competing in his first ever steeplechase was not to far off the meet record (6:05.06, Ben Johnson) recording a time of 6:12.44 to move into 3rd all-time at the GSW.
